Making street transport more comfortable for pedestrians and residents is a task with not of a less importance than making public transport comfortable for passengers.
Tram is known to be a “clean” kind of transport, but the noise level was always a thing to work on. Although trams produce on 15% less noise and vibration than the road. The road’s noise is about 82 dB, and tram’s about 71 dB At the same time tram cars can simultaneously carry up to 260 people.
The reconstruction of Moscow tramways is carried on a regular planned base. During the reconstruction in 2018 Moscow tramways would be equipped with special damping mats. The mats will reduce the vibration level, caused trams’ movement on the tracks by 30%, comments Alexander Polyakov, Director of SUE "Mosgortransniiproekt".
First damping mats will appear at the Novospassky Bridge, and on Bolshaya Kalitnikovskaya street during the overhaul repair.
"Tram movement causes the vibrations that may affect near-by buildings. Mats will reduce these vibrations. Their installation has to be start in the warm season. The installation of mats will take place during capital repair of tram tracks. In the future, it is planned to use vibration isolation mats in other areas located close to residential houses," Alexander Polyakov said.
The first vibration isolation mats in the capital were laid in the spring of 2017 on a 100-meter section on Krasnokazarmennaya Street. The tests appeared to be successful. Earlier this year Moscow started implementing sleepers made of recycled plastic for tram tracks.
