St. Petersburg trams and trolleybuses meeting the spring cleaned

If winter is bringing one kind of challendge for ground transport with its snowfalls and unperdictable temperature movings, the spring is putting ahead a simple and clear task  - to put clean vehicles into the streets both in rain and in hot weather. 
The out-door cleaning machines stay closed in winter, but as soon as air temperature turnes above zero , the washing is resumed.
The new washing machines operate in automatic mode: a tram or trolleybus passes through the wash brushes at the entrance to the Depot, so that the depot gets clean and ready for a new shift rolling stock.
The new system of rolling stock washing was launched in 2018. Modern washing is equipped with a wastewater treatment system and circulating water supply, which reduces water consumption up to 85%. New washing systems is automated: a passing vehicles triggeres photocells and the cleaning process start. Operation of automatic washing in normal mode takes place without staff involvement.
Similar systems have been installed in recent years in all tram and trolleybus depots of St. Petersburg's Gorelektrotrans. In total 30 washing complexes: 18 tram and 12 trolleybus work to clean electric transport. Two-thirds of the systems (19) have been completely updated in the last five years. In 2018, three new washing complexes were put into operation – 2 in tram depots, 1 in the trolleybus depot.
Daily pre-trip control of rolling stock technical condition is carried out by staff, cleaners carry out wet cleaning of salon, clearnseats, handrails, apply anti-vandal detergents. In addition, General cleaning of salons includes ceiling lights, glass, partitions of ceiling panels. The cleaning is  spreaded on  "articulation" joints,  control panel, drivers cabin.
The contact network condition is monitored by the energy department of Gorelektrotrans. With the onset of warm days, a specialized car  - a laboratory of the contact network is detouring network to reveal hidden defects. Energy specialists measure the height and degree of tension of the contact network, as well as the zigzag contact wire measuring. All identified deviations are given back to the standards. Special attention is paid to intersections (tram-tram, tram-trolleybus, trolleybus-trolleybus) and trolleybus switches. Also, bearings checked and re-painted.
Track facilities are also checked for compliance with the norms and correspondene to the rules of technical operation. The drainage devices on the tracks are cleaned and washed. Repair of special parts – for example, turnouts, rail joints are conducted if necessary.
A distinctive feature of St. Petersburg is the inspection of right-of-way on the movable spans of bridges before navigation.
